“Certain Women,” a new movie that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be shown this week at the UO in a campus-only advance screening.

The UO Cinema Studies Program  will show “Certain Women” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in Room 177 Lawrence Hall. The screening is free and open to UO students, faculty and staff.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. UO ID is required for admission.

The film tells the story of three women whose lives intersect in a small-town in America. It stars Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams and Laura Dern.

The movie is the result of a successful collaboration between Portland-based producer Neil Kopp and director Kelly Reichardt. Kopp has been behind some of the most talked-about independent films in recent years, winning an Independent Spirit Producers Award as well as critical acclaim.

Kopp has collaborated with Reichardt to produce several of her films. Kopp and Reichardt will participate in a question-and-answer session immediately following the screening.

Cinema studies is bringing Kopp and Reichardt to campus as part of the inaugural Harlan J. Strauss Visiting Professor and Filmmaker Fund in Cinema Studies. The generous gift will bring successful industry filmmakers and emerging talents to campus each year to work closely with students.
