Ducks received a rare snow day Monday as up to a foot of snow fell around the Eugene campus.
The heavy, wet snow, while gorgeous to look at, began falling late Sunday night and made local roads impassable at times. Spotty power outages were reported on campus and around the local community.
All classes and events were canceled and all university offices and departments were closed except for select emergency and essential services. Portland campus operations were on a normal schedule.
Dozens of employees reported to work to clear campus paths and roads of snow and fallen limbs and branches, working throughout the day to get the university back up and running. University officials were closely monitoring any power outages that could possibly affect research activities.
Eugene officials declared an ice/snow emergency, and Lane Transit District had suspended service as of Monday morning.
