COMING ATTRACTIONS is a regular feature, highlighting the many upcoming lectures, exhibits and other events at the UO. Events coming soon to campus include lectures, concerts, a suicide prevention workshop, and a documentary screening.
- A display of ten woodblock prints from the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca will be on display at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art through April 27, 2014.
- Folklorist and performer Mick Moloney will present a concert of Celtic tunes on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m. in historic Beall Concert Hall. The concert is the opening event of Eugene’s annual Irish Cultural Festival. General admission is $18; student and senior tickets will cost $12. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, 541-346-4363.
- A Wikipedia Workshop will be held on Friday, March 7 from 3-5 p.m. Sarah Stierch, visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley Center for New Media and Susan B. Miller Fellow, will visit the UO campus to conduct the workshop. The event is for those who are interested in learning how to contribute and edit content on Wikipedia; all undergraduates, faculty members, and graduate students are welcome to attend – please bring your own computer. The event will be held in 221 Allen Hall; it will also be streamed live on the Fembot website.
- On Saturday, March 8, groups will meet to utilize new skills learned at the Wikipedia Workshop taught by Sarah Stierch. Participants will contribute entries on feminist figures from history, art, literature, politics, government, social movements, and science; the event is a collaboration from the ASUO Women’s Center, the Center for the Study of Women in Society, the SOJC, and the UO Libraries as a celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. The event will be held in Allen Hall Room 221 from 1-4 p.m.; participants are asked to bring their own computer. More information about signing up can be found here.
- On March 9, Vox Resonat, an ensemble of vocal soloists, will perform a medieval and Renaissance music concert. The concert will be held at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Eugene. - On Tuesday, March 11, the Oregon Wind Quintet will present a concert entitled “Retro-Moderne” at 7:30 p.m. at The Old Church in Portland. Admission is free.
- A screening of the documentary “Agents of Change” will take place on March 19 from 6-8 p.m. in Allen Hall Room 221, followed by a Q & A session with director Gabriela Martínez and co-producer Sonia De La Cruz. The documentary chronicles the development of the UO Center for the Study of Women in Society and the UO Department of Women’s and Gender Studies
- A suicide prevention workshop will be held on Thursday, March 20 from 1-3 p.m. The Suicide Prevention Team and the University Counseling and Testing Center will host the event. To register the workshop please email Suzie Stadelman.
- On Friday, March 21, the University of Oregon’s Tardis Ensemble will perform a concert entitled “The American South” at 2 p.m. in the Papé Reception Hall of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the UO campus. Admission is free.
