Events coming soon to campus include “The Science of Mindfulness and Meditation,” a Tools of the Trade show, a Portland exhibit, a UO professor’s book launch and a concert by a musical group from Tijuana.
- A symposium called “The Science of Mindfulness and Meditation” will be held on Friday, Nov. 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Willamette Hall, Room 110 followed by a reception. The symposium was organized by a few psychology graduate students and Cris Niell, assistant professor in the UO’s Institute for Neuroscience, as part of the UO Research Excellence Award.
- The 32nd annual Tools of the Trade show will be held Nov. 6 and 7 at the UO Duck Store from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. The trade show will highlight new art and media products as well as bring national and international vendors to Eugene; the event is free.
- Craig Hickman, UO Digital Arts professor and creator of Kid Pix, currently has an exhibition called “Portland Creative Community 1.0” on display at Portland’s White Box from Oct. 9 to Nov. 23. A First Thursday Special Reception and Silent Auction will be held on Nov. 7 to benefit the White Box from 5-9 p.m. Please click here for more information about the exhibit.
- A three-day celebration of feminist research and activism will be held beginning Thursday, Nov. 7 honoring Ursula K. Le Guin’s visit to the UO. The event, “Agents of Change”, will feature Le Guin as a guest speaker. “A Conversation with Ursula K. Le Guin” will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the EMU ballroom, followed by a book signing. . - Oregon Mozart Players will perform “Death and the Maiden” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beall Concert Hall. - A book launch will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for UO anthropology professor Lynn Stephen’s "We Are the Face of Oaxaca: Testimony and Social Movements." The event will feature guest speakers who were involved in the creation and content of the book; it is free and open to the public. Please click here for more information about the book launch.
- A Grammy-nominated musical group from Tijuana, Mexico called Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible will be in Eugene Nov. 22-23 to screen their documentary film as well as perform. The UO College of Education’s Department of Education Studies is sponsoring the event along with a few other organizations at the university. The documentary “Tijuana: Sonidos del Nortec: will be shown on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. in room 124 of the Global Scholars Hall; it is free and open to the public. The concert will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. at McDonald Theatre. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
