COMING WEEK: UO attractions begin with an annual faculty and staff fun run.
Other events coming soon to campus include a spring social, student trivia night, accounting workshops, a multiple lectures, and a variety of film screenings and music concerts.
EVENTS
- The 16th annual Take a Hike faculty and staff 1-mile walk and 5K fun run will be held on Thursday, May 22, from noon-1 p.m. The event is free. Pre –registration is encouraged, but on-site registration is available as well.
- On Thursday, May 22, the Romance Languages Department will host its annual Spring Social from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Gerlinger Hall Lounge. The event is a celebration of achievements and will honor the 2014-15 scholarship winners.
- An Accounting Research Workshop will take place on Friday, May 23, from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Lillis Business Complex, Room 312. The workshop is part of a series; faculty from other universities will present their accounting research papers.
- Student Trivia Night will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Categories will focus on Oregon natural history and science. Admission is free for all students.
LECTURES
- A lecture titled "Showcasing Oregon: Incorporating Best Practices in Equity, Inclusion and Diversity" will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Keynote speakers include Mitchell Chang and Damon Williams. - On Thursday, May 22, from noon-12:50 p.m. a historic preservation lecture and brown bag lunch will be held in Lawrence Hall, Room 231. The lecture is titled "A Conversation Around Vernacular Architecture from 1870 to 1960".
- A guest lecture on green dentistry will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Lillis Business Complex, Room 128, Chiles Hall.
- On Wednesday, May 28, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., computer security expert and writer Bruce Schneier will lecture on "Internet, Security, and Power" in the EMU Ballroom.
FILM
- Every Thursday evening from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, a Ducks After Dark Double Feature will be held in the PLC, Room 180. This week’s movies are “Frozen” and “The Lego Movie.”
- On Thursday, May 22, a free screening of America the Beautiful 3 will be held in the EMU, Gumwood Room. The event will include the film screening, a Q&A panel and a reception.
MUSIC & THEATRE
- A symphonic band concert will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Beall Concert Hall. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, 541-346-4363.
- A UO Honors Jazz Combos Concert will be held on Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, 541-346-4363.
- On Friday, May 23, at 8 p.m., Trombone Quartet Night will be held at Beall Concert Hall.
- The opening night "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" will be performed by the University Theatre on Thursday, May 29, at 8 p.m. Tickets will be free for UO students with a student ID card; $14 general admission; $12 for seniors and UO faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased from the UO Ticket office, 541-346-4363 or online.
