EVENTS

• On Thursday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual University Day will be held. The event will focus on planting flowers and trees, spreading bark dust and beautifying campus. Volunteers will receive a free University Day t-shirt for participating for at least one hour. Check in at the Collier Lawn at any time throughout the day; no pre-registration is required. • The fourth annual Gay Straight Alliance Leadership Summit will be held Thursday, May 15, at 9 a.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church, 1685 W. 13^th Ave..
• The School of Law Commencement Ceremony will be held Saturday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.
• The University of Oregon Relay for Life is Saturday, May 17, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center’s Turf Field 3 to celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer. The event is a 12-hour overnight relay that will include a variety of activities and refreshments for attendees. Registration is $10 in advance or $20 the day of the event. • The 16^th annual Take a Hike faculty and staff 1-mile walk and 5K fun run will be held Thursday, May 22, from noon to 1 p.m. The event is free. Pre–registration is encouraged, but on-site registration also is available.

LECTURES

• Ann Blair, a Harvard University professor, will present a lecture titled In the Workshop of the Mind: The Role of Amanuenses in Early Modern Europe on Thursday, May 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. The lecture is part of the Oregon Rare Books Initiative.
• The 2014 Ruhl Lecture will take place Thursday, May 15, at 4 p.m. Eric Liu, founder and CEO of Citizen University will present "Power, Voice, and the Meaning of Citizenship." Liu also served as a White House speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and was the president’s deputy domestic policy adviser. The event will also be streamed live in Room 141, Allen Hall.
• On Friday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., an academic conference will be hosted by the UOTeachOUT program in the EMU. The event is open to the general public but is geared toward K-12 teachers and students.
• Lundquist Career Services will host Social Media in the Job Search on Wednesday, May 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 125 A and B, Chiles Hall. The event will teach young professionals how to build personal brands and leverage social media presence during a job search.

EXHIBITIONS

• On Thursday, May 15, from 1 to 8 p.m., the fourth annual Undergraduate Symposium will be held in the Maple and Oak rooms of the EMU Ballroom. The symposium will feature oral presentations, posters and performances from undergraduate students.

FILM

• Every Thursday evening from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, a Ducks After Dark Double Feature will be held in Room 180, PLC. This week’s movies are “21 Jump Street” and “Anchorman 2.” The event is free.

MUSIC & DANCE

• The student chamber ensembles will give a free recital on Thursday, May 15, at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall.
• The Spring Big Bands Concert will be held Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall featuring the Oregon Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band II. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, (541) 346-4363.
