Historical exhibits related to feminist research, teaching, activism and creativity are on display this fall at various university locations and the Eugene Airport to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the UO's Center for the Study of Women in Society.
CSWS collaborated with the ASUO Women’s Center and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies to put together displays of images, documents, artwork, publications and other historical materials associated with the past four decades of feminist work. The Knight Library, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Erb Memorial Union and the Eugene Airport are showcasing the displays.
Materials were provided by the Knight Library Special Collections and University Archives, the permanent collection of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, the ASUO Women’s Center and the Center for the Study of Women in Society. The displays aim to honor and explore the legacy of feminist research.
The Eugene Airport’s “Center for the Study of Women in Society” exhibit will be shown in the first level baggage claim display case. It highlights the research of CSWS research grant awardees, including Gabriela Martínez, now associate director of CSWS and UO SOJC associate professor; Shannon Elizabeth Bell, who earned her doctorate from UO in 2010 and is now a University of Kentucky sociology professor; and R. Charli Carpenter, who earned her doctorate at UO in 2003 and is now a University of Massachusetts at Amherst political science associate professor.
“Women’s Stories, Women’s Lives” is exhibited at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, and "Forty Years Strong" is at the Knight Library.
