Faculty, staff and students and their families are invited to the University of Oregon’s traditional convocation ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Matthew Knight Arena.   

Convocation, one of the UO's proudest traditions, serves as the university's official welcome to new students and faculty members and celebrates the atmosphere of academic excellence, innovation and intellectual curiosity at UO in which students, faculty and staff thrive.

The university is delighted to be able to hold the ceremony this fall for the first time since 2019, one of a number of celebratory events that will be held during students’ Week of Welcome, and is encouraging faculty and staff participation.

The hourlong convocation ceremony will include a message from interim UO President Patrick Phillips and keynote addresses from a faculty member and student leader, and it will be emceed by interim Vice President for Student Life Kris Winter.

“Convocation is a fantastic first opportunity for new students to be introduced to our collective goals of student success and academic excellence,” Winter said. “We want our new Ducks to start off right, connect with our community, and begin to become aware of the wonderful resources we offer to help our students succeed here.”

Any member of the UO community who has a bachelor’s degree or higher is invited to wear academic regalia.
