University of Oregon President Karl Scholz announced in a campuswide email Thursday that Derek Kindle from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be the new vice president for enrollment management, replacing Roger Thompson after a national search.
Kindle, currently Wisconsin-Madison’s vice provost for enrollment management, will start June 30. President Scholz said in his message that Kindle brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in higher education enrollment management, student financial aid and institutional leadership. During his tenure, UW-Madison achieved record-breaking enrollment numbers, including the largest and most diverse incoming class in its history.
“This is an exciting and challenging moment for higher education and for the University of Oregon,” Scholz said. “I am confident Derek's expertise, dedication and innovative approach will significantly benefit our university community and meet this moment while advancing the shared aspirations in Oregon Rising.”
Some of Kindle’s notable achievements at Wisconsin-Madison include increasing prospective student applications by 68 percent; raising approximately $93.5 million to support diversity recruitment efforts, need-based financial aid and research initiatives; and leading efforts to align research-practice partnerships across the division, resulting in increased research outputs and practical applications.
Kindle holds a master of arts in organizational communication and a bachelor of arts in legal communications and graduated summa cum laude from Howard University. He is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the National Association of College Admissions Counselors, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the Higher Education Loan Coalition, the International Baccalaureate, United States Advisory Group and as a trustee of the College Board.
