While 2014 proved to be the year that the Oregon State Beavers broke a four-year winning streak by the University of Oregon Ducks in the hotly contested annual Civil War Blood Drive, the trophy is coming back to Eugene this year.

On behalf of the UO, 3,049 people donated blood this year compared to OSU’s 2,314 — making the total donors to the American Red Cross and Lane Blood Center 5,363.

The University of Oregon Alumni Association and Oregon State University Alumni Association have partnered with the American Red Cross and the Lane Blood Center for 14 years now. This year’s contest lasted from Nov. 1 through Nov. 22.

The Ducks’ win evened the overall score at seven each.

All competition aside, the goal of the drive is to increase community blood donations and ultimately save lives. Just because the blood drive is over doesn’t mean Ducks can’t still donate; contact the Lane Blood Center at lanebloodcenter.org, by email at lanebloodcenter@laneblood.org or by phone at (541) 484-9111 to schedule a donation.

It should be noted, too, that the Oregon Ducks came out ahead on the football field as well: they scored 52 points to OSU’s 42 points in front of a crowd of 57,814 people at Autzen Stadium on Friday, Nov. 27.
