Three University of Oregon representatives will be among the panelists joining a Eugene City Club discussion Friday on efforts to maintain a friendly and cooperative relationship with the UO’s campus neighbors and the city.
The panel discussion will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the third-floor ballroom of the Downtown Athletic Club at Willamette Street and 10th Avenue in Eugene. It is free for City Club members and $5 for nonmembers, although the admission price is included for those who purchase lunch.
Paul Shang, assistant vice president for student affairs and Dean of Students, will be on the panel along with Karen Hyatt, assistant director of government and community relations and the UO’s neighborhood liaison, and Mackenzie Smith, community affairs commissioner for the Associated Students of the University of Oregon.
Other panelists include Camilla Bayliss of the Fairmount Neighbors Association and Kelly Putnam, manager of the Eugene Police Department’s West University Station.
The university has been active in a number of initiatives, task forces and events over the past five years aimed at addressing town-gown issues. Members of the panel will discuss recent collaborations and successes boosting neighborhood liveability and will share future plans and areas targeted for improvement.
Following the panel discussion, City Club members will be invited to take part in a question-and-answer session with the presenters.
Members of the university community are invited to attend the session to hear more about the role that community relations and the Office of the Dean of Students plays in working with neighbors and local government partners to ensure our students are both premier scholars and citizens.
For those who are unable to attend, the discussion will be broadcast on KLCC radio Monday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m.
