The culminating work of eight UO 2017 master of fine arts students will be on exhibit at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center in a thesis exhibition until May 29.
The MFA program, a three-year interdisciplinary art curriculum, enables the students to work across all genres and involves studio work, critical discourse and conceptual development.
This year’s show will feature students from the disciplines of drawing, sculpture, digital arts, fiber arts, film, performance art and painting, according to associate professor Christopher Michlig, director of graduate studies in the Department of Art at the UO School of Architecture and Allied Arts.
The exhibiting artists — Lee Asahina, Andrew Campbell, Chelsea Couch, Mandy Hampton, Ron Linn, Joe Moore, Mary Morgan, Esther Weng and Meril Wallace — will collectively “challenge audiences to explore new ways of thinking about and moving in the world through infiltration, translation and humor,” according to the arts center.
In one of the pieces, “Joe Moore has converted his small pickup into an interactive sculpture/video screen installation. It will be parked in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition,” Michlig said.
The exhibit is free; gallery hours are Friday-Sunday, 12-5 p.m. at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, 8371 N. Interstate Ave., Portland.
