Most salary increases due to faculty members covered by last fall's collective bargaining agreement between the University of Oregon and the United Academics faculty union are expected to show up in paychecks by Jan. 31.
Salaried faculty members' Jan. 31 paychecks will include across-the-board increases and merit raises that became effective July 1. Across-the-board increases that became effective Jan. 1, 2013, were reflected in paychecks issued Nov. 27.
The Jan. 31 paychecks of about 80 faculty members who are paid on an hourly basis will include merit raises that became effective July 1. For faculty members on hourly wages, the July 1, 2013 across-the-board increase is expected to be distributed by Feb. 15. Across-the-board increases from January 2013 were included in their Nov. 27 paychecks.
Meanwhile, retroactive pay tied to the July across-the-board increases is still being calculated for about 380 salaried and hourly faculty members who were on the payroll when the contract was signed in October but are no longer employed at the UO. Those increases will be distributed after the salary adjustment process has been completed for current faculty. Distribution of the January 2013 across-the-board increases was completed by Dec. 10 for the former employees.
Unit heads are expected to send letters reporting individual faculty members’ increases to each faculty member before the end of January.
Under the CBA, bargaining unit faculty members receive three 1.5 percent across-the-board adjustments. The first was retroactive to Jan. 1, 2013, and was paid in November, 2013. The second is retroactive to July 1, 2013, and the third will be effective on July 1 of this year.
Representatives of the university and the faculty union continue to meet weekly as a contract implementation committee.
The collective bargaining agreement – which covers more than 1,800 UO faculty members – was finalized last October. It is effective through June 30, 2015.
