Find a topic and a time to learn something new from someone new

In the first full week of April, the world of teaching and research will be on display. Employees are invited to take a break from their own work during the Week of Research and Innovation to explore alongside coworkers and colleagues. With over thirty sessions across five days in a variety of locations, including virtual options, everyone is encouraged to find the topic and the time to learn something new from someone new.

“What an amazing thing that we work on a university campus and get to be exposed to so many different ideas, thoughts, disciplines and creative projects. I love that I can go hear a lecture on a topic I don’t know anything about and learn something completely new. That is one of the beautiful parts of higher education and what it means to work in this place.

“There are really interesting things happening around every corner of the UO. The Week of Research and Innovation gives us a chance to see what’s going on across the university and connect with colleagues from other departments.” said Hollie Smith, associate professor of science and environmental communication. “It’s important that we all get to know and understand one another, and this is a wonderful opportunity to get a little bit more connected to what’s going on in the places on campus that we might not go regularly.”

Education is at the core of everything we do. Students come here, to the University of Oregon, from all around to learn and grow. UO researchers collaborate around the world exchanging ideas and sharing newly discovered insights. No matter what you do or where you do it, you make contributions toward this collective purpose. Come be a part of the learning, the growing.

Week of Research and Innovation Overview

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation is dedicating the week of April 6-10 to recognize the excellence in research, scholarship and discovery across every UO school, college and campus. All are welcome and invited to join together with faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars and staff to build connections, share ideas and showcase the breadth and impact of our research and innovation ecosystem. The hope is for these events to energize our community by strengthening partnerships, fostering new collaborations and reminding us of the exciting and meaningful work happening across the UO every day.
