The first of five candidates for the UO’s general counsel position will be on campus for two days of meetings with faculty, campus leaders and the campus community beginning Thursday, April 30.

Thomas Dorer, currently a vice president and general counsel at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, will meet with a succession of campus groups during his visit. The schedule and Dorer’s application letter and resumé are available here.

The names of other candidates will be released as interviews and campus visits are scheduled. Although no open presentations are planned, the candidates will meet with an array of representatives from across campus.

Interviews are expected to be complete by May 14. A feedback form to provide comments on the candidates is available through the general counsel search link above.

The university is seeking a permanent replacement to lead its general counsel’s office, which is currently let by interim General Counsel Doug Park. The general counsel is the university’s chief legal officer and is responsible for managing legal affairs and overseeing legal services provided to both the university and the UO Board of Trustees.

The search committee, formed in December, includes Patricia Southwell, professor of political science and department head; Meg Reeves, Oregon State University general counsel; Brad Shelton, interim vice president for research and innovation; David Schuman, professor of law; and Angela Wilhelms, university secretary.
