The president of one of two Guatemalan high-risk crimes tribunals will deliver the inaugural Lecture in Latinx and Latin American Studies this Tuesday, March 5.
Judge Yassmin Barrios will discuss “Justice and Reparation in Guatemala: Challenges and Possibilities” in Room 156, Straub Hall at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Barrios was the presiding judge in the case against General Efraín Ríos Montt that resulted in his conviction for genocide against the indigenous Ixil Mayans of Guatemala.
The event is presented by the UO’s Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies and is co-sponsored by the Office of the President, Oregon Humanities Center, Center for the Study of Women in Society, Latin American studies program and the departments of history, political science and romance languages.
