The University of Oregon School of Law this fall will host a Harvard law professor who developed that university’s first “massive open online courses.”

The Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics will welcome William "Terry" Fisher as the visiting Wayne Morse Chair of Law and Politics. Fisher will be the lead scholar for the upcoming Wayne Morse Center theme of "Media and Democracy," co-teaching an intensive class with Professor Eric Priest this fall.

Fisher, the Wilmer Hale Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Harvard and a director of the Berkman Center for Internet Society, developed his own massive open online course – MOOC for short – titled “CopyrightX.”

The MOOCs are Harvard’s first massive open online courses, designated to enroll tens of thousands of students. His course explores the reformation and debates surrounding copyright laws.

Each year, the Wayne Morse Chair of Law and Politics is reserved for people who carry on the tradition of Senator Morse, those who have raised the level of public awareness of important issues. A luncheon with Fisher, discussing online classes, will take place in the Lewis Lounge on Wednesday, Sept. 4. His residence occurs during the week of September 2-7 and again in January.
