The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is one of five museums across the U.S. to partner with the Smithsonian American Art Museum to expand access to American art throughout the country.
Art Bridges and the Terra Foundation of American Art gave a nearly $2 million grant to support the five-year partnership. The partners will share collections and resources to create a series of exhibitions.
Other partners include the Boise Art Museum, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City and the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, Washington.
For the first set of exhibitions starting in September, the museums will feature art from the Smithsonian. A second exhibition will feature art from all six museums and will travel to each museum between 2021 and 2023.
Staff from the museums will also get to participate in professional growth opportunities. More information will be available on the Smithsonian’s website, americanart.si.edu.
