KWAX will air 22 Christmas music programs Dec. 24 and 25

KWAX Classical Oregon, the University of Oregon’s all-classical public radio station, will air 22 different Christmas specials on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The station, at 91.1 FM, will feature a variety of genre-specific classical performances from some of the world’s greatest orchestras and choral groups virtually every hour beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 24.

Highlights include “Gloria in Excelsis’ performed by the New Jersey Master Chorale at 1 p.m., “The Canadian Brass Christmas” at 3 p.m. and Handel’s “Messiah” performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony at 8 p.m., both on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day highlights include the “St. Olaf Christmas Festival” at 8 a.m., “Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir” at 11 a.m. and “Hollywood Holiday” with music from classic Christmas movies at 3 p.m.

“Listeners will enjoy a wonderful selection of classically arranged Christmas music from morning through the early evening hours on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,” said KWAX General Manager Greg Raschio. “Musical Director Peter van de Graaff and program specialist Rocky Lamanna have collaborated to put together an impressive lineup of performances designed to enrich our listener’s overall Christmas experience.”

The KWAX Christmas lineup can also be enjoyed by listeners in Central Oregon, from Florence to Newport on the Oregon Coast and from Douglas County to Salem on the station’s extensive network of transmitters and translators.
