The Museum of Natural and Cultural History and Sam Bond's Brewing Co. invite the community to quench its thirst – for beer and for knowledge – at "Ideas on Tap," a monthly conversation series exploring history, science and culture.
On the first Wednesday of each month, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the museum will bring an expert du jour to the tasting room at Sam Bond’s Brewing Co., 540 E. Eighth Ave., for an informal, audience-driven discussion. Topics will range from brewing science to honeybee health to climate justice.
“‘Ideas on Tap’ will provide opportunities for community members to interact with researchers and professionals – but in a relaxed, non-academic setting that encourages everyone to participate,” said Lauren Willis of the UO museum. “And of course, it’ll be an opportunity to enjoy some terrific local beer.”
The series kicks off Jan. 7 with “The Science of Beer,” featuring Oregon State University fermentation scientist Thomas Shellhammer, who will discuss the chemistry behind Oregon’s signature hoppy brews.
Jim Montgomery of Sam Bond’s Brewing Co. said he is looking forward to hosting the museum’s series.
“Many of the issues that will be discussed at ‘Ideas on Tap’ have a direct effect on our business, its customers and the community,” he said. “We hope that our brewery’s involvement will bring craft beer enthusiasts to the table to share in this knowledge.”
The “Ideas on Tap” conversations are free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
