Musicians, ranging from budding composers to Grammy winning vocalists, will perform at the University of Oregon this month as part of the Music Today Festival.
From Jan. 19 to 31 a number of musical events will be hosted, including solo vocal performances and a concert entirely of student-composed music. More than 100 students will participate as composers or performers at the festival.
The UO School of Music and Dance is presenting the festival, which was founded in 1993. The biannual event celebrates and focuses on music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
This year’s headliner will be Grammy-winning soprano Estelí Gomez. Gomez garnered critical praise for her work in the a capella group Roomful of Teeth, which won a Grammy for best chamber music/small ensemble performance in 2014. Gomez will perform at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Beall Concert Hall.
Other performances in the festival include a flute studio on Sunday, Jan. 25, and a student-led and composed concert on Saturday, Jan. 31, that will close the festival.
Tickets for events are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office at MacArthur Court. Admission prices vary, and some shows are free.
