Naomi Klein, an award-winning journalist, syndicated columnist and New York Times and international bestselling author, will discuss her new book “This Changes Everything” in the Oregon Humanities Center’s 2016 Cressman Lecture.

Her talk takes place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in the EMU ballroom and will be followed by a book sale and signing. The event is free, but tickets are required for entry and are available at the UO Ticket Office, tickets.uoregon.edu or by phone at 541-346-4363.

The lecture will explore the ideas she poses in her book. Klein argues that “global warming is not about carbon; it’s about capitalism” and believes the global economic model is waging war against life on Earth. The book provides extensive and detailed research exposing many myths that she says are “clouding the climate debate.”

Klein’s award-winning documentary film, “This Changes Everything,” will be screened a week before the lecture at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, in Room 156 Straub Hall. The film trailer can be viewed at: thefilm.thischangeseverything.org. The screening of Klein’s documentary film is free but will have a 500-person seating limit.

“This Changes Everything” has been named to multiple Best of 2014 lists including the New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2014 and is being translated into more than 24 languages. In addition, Klein is the author of two other critically acclaimed international bestsellers, “The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism” and “No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies.”

Klein is a columnist for The Nation magazine and the Guardian newspaper and is a contributing editor at the Harper’s magazine. She is also a Puffin Foundation writing fellow at the Nation Institute and is on the board of directors for 350.org, the global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis.
