No surprise: Parking is limited near Hayward Field for big meet

Hosting a major track and field meet on a campus where parking already is limited is bound to require adjustments, and the IAAF World Junior Championships are no exception.

Several parking lots and some street parking have been reserved for those with event permits, including staff, officials and others associated with the meet. Traffic and parking in areas closest to Hayward Field will be affected most, but some parking on the periphery of campus also is reserved.

As with other large events on campus, the best advice for those attending the meet is to take the bus, ride bikes or use other forms of alternative transportation. Anyone with a ticket to the meet or with meet credentials can ride LTD buses, including the EmX, for free through the final day of the competition, July 27.

A free bicycle valet for spectators is on Agate Street in front of Knight Law Center, just across Agate from Hayward Field. Those who drive and park on nearby streets are urged to pay attention to city parking restrictions and time limits.

Areas reserved for those with event permits include street parking on Agate Street between East 15th and 17th avenues, the lot at the corner of Agate and East 17th north of Agate Hall and the lot south of the new Global Scholars Hall near East 17th and Moss.

Other reserved areas include parking lots near the UO parking and transportation office off Walnut Street, Columbia Street and the Columbia Garage under Knight Arena and the lot on Riverfront Parkway.

A map showing reserved parking areas can be found here.
