Nominations open for 2016 Distinguished Teaching Awards

Nominations are now open for the faculty Distinguished Teaching Awards. Faculty, students, staff, and alumni are encouraged to nominate faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and pedagogy at the university.

Four distinguished teaching awards are given, each supported by endowment funds:

  • The Ersted Award recognizes excellence in teaching by faculty members early in their teaching careers.
  • The Ersted Award for Specialized Pedagogy is for faculty members who have held academic rank at the UO for at least two full years, demonstrated exceptional abilities to induce students to reason, and shown consistent excellence in a particular type of teaching. 
  • The Thomas F. Herman Award for Distinguished Teaching is given to faculty members who have demonstrated long-standing excellence in teaching at the university.
  • The Herman Award for Specialized Pedagogy recognizes senior faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and expertise in a particular area of teaching.
