Tom Bowman, a National Public Radio reporter covering the Department of Defense, will speak about covering the Pentagon in the Trump era at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Knight
Room.The free public event will be co-moderated by the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication and radio station KLCC-FM.
Bowman’s career has taken him to Iraq and Afghanistan for monthlong visits with U.S. Marines and soldiers. Before starting his work with NPR in 2006, he reported for the Baltimore Sun for almost 20 years, covering the Pentagon, Maryland statehouse, U.S. Congress, U.S. Naval Academy and the National Security Agency.
His reporting has led to a Pentagon investigation of racial and gender discrimination at NSA in 1994. He won a 2006 National Headliners Award for stories on the lack of advanced tourniquets for U.S. troops in Iraq and a 2010 Edward R. Murrow Award for covering a Taliban roadside bomb attack on an Army unit.
