Scores of volunteers got in step with UO and Eugene officials this week to canvass streets near campus and welcome students back for another school year and encourage a spirit of neighborliness.
About 100 UO students and staff joined President Michael Schill, ASUO President Helena Schlegel and Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy walking door to door and offering greetings and information on how to get along with other residents of the university's closest neighborhoods. It's an annual event that's been going on since 2009 and covers more than 70 city blocks.
