Provost Jayanth Banavar sent the following message to faculty seeking nominations for candidates for a new vice provost for academic affairs position:
Dear Colleagues,
As I announced in July, I have appointed Scott Pratt as the executive vice provost for academic affairs in a restructuring of the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs (OPAA). As part of this effort to better support the university’s academic priorities and initiatives, OPAA is also seeking to hire a new vice provost for academic affairs (VPAA). This position will report to Executive Vice Provost Pratt and will focus primarily on the academic success of UO faculty. This focus will range from supporting academic hiring to developing mentorship programs to overseeing tenure and promotion and post tenure reviews. The VPAA will work with OPAA staff, college deans, and department heads to strengthen faculty support at every stage of faculty members’ careers. This vice provost position description replaces an earlier version of the position that was announced in spring, prior to my arrival.
I invite qualified, full professors with an interest in faculty support processes to apply for the VPAA position. Also, if you know of someone who may be well suited for the position, please encourage them to apply or nominate them for consideration. The full job description is posted on the UO careers website. The first consideration deadline is August 11.
This position will provide key leadership for one of the university’s top priorities. It is an exciting opportunity and I encourage you to help us build an outstanding candidate pool for this important role.
Thank you,
Jayanth Banavar
Provost and Senior Vice President
