Meditation is for more than just the mind – it benefits physiology and our professional and personal lives.
Experts from the Healing Arts Research Interest Group will hold a public roundtable and discussion on meditation practices in Eugene and the UO at 5 p.m. May 23 in Hedco 144.
The roundtable will focus on meditation practices such as yoga and
Zen. With several campus initiatives on alternative ways of thinking about body/mind relationships, the event brings together meditation practitioners and researchers to share perspectives and experiences.
Participants and topics include:
- Marjorie Woollacott, professor in Human Physiology: "Meditation as Linking the Professional and the Personal. Mediation as Study in Human Physiology"
- Lisa Freinkel, professor of Comparative Literature and English: "Women and the Way: Zen, Gender and the 'Perfection of Wisdom'"
- Jess Eltridge, MA, co-owner of Sweaty Ganesh Yoga, Eugene: "Yoga as Moving Meditation"
- Frank Diaz, professor of music education: "Yoga, Mindfulness, and Related Practices in the Classroom."
Healing Arts is part of the Center for the Study of Women in Society.
