One of the country’s foremost researchers on sexual violence and prevention advocacy is coming to the UO.

Forensic consultant David Lisak will be hosting two discussions at the UO on Thursday, May 26. At 4:15 p.m. in Room 123 of the Global Scholars Hall, Lisak will talk about sexual predators and the research he’s done on them. The second talk will be at 7 p.m. in Room 156 Straub Hall and will focus on the experience of male sexual assault survivors.

Lisak will also be on campus throughout the day meeting privately with students, staff and faculty.

Lisak’s work has been featured in various news outlets such as National Public Radio, and he was also featured in Jon Krakauer’s book “Missoula,” about sexual assaults at the University of Montana. He was also recently in the 2015 documentary “The Hunting Ground,” which focuses on sexual assault at universities throughout the country.

Along with his media work, Lisak also has consulted for the U.S. military, the Department of Defense and various universities. He’s also the founding board member of 1in6, a nonprofit for men who faced sexual violence in childhood.

The UO Organization Against Sexual Assault is sponsoring Lisak’s visit to the UO.

“There’s been members of OASA trying to get David to talk at the UO for years and we almost got him to come last year, but unfortunately he got booked up,” said Andrew Rogers, the public relations coordinator for the group. “But thankfully we got him this year, and we’re really excited for the university to learn from and listen to Lisak about his knowledge on sexual violence.”

Both of Lisak’s talks are free and open to the public.
