The Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon is gearing up for its next quarterly meetings, with committee meetings set the morning of Thursday, Sept. 10, and the full board meeting that afternoon  and continuing Sept. 11.

One topic throughout the meeting will be statewide political matters. University of Oregon trustees will meet with Gov. Kate Brown and hear her ideas for higher education in Oregon. They will also get a recap of budget and policy matters affecting higher education and the UO during the 2015 legislative session from Hans Bernard, associate vice president for state and community affairs.

Members of the Finance and Facilities Committee will learn about three capital projects that received legislative funding during the 2015 session: the Klamath Hall renovation and expansion, Chapman Hall renovation and the new College and Careers Building. Trustees will also receive an update from Provost Scott Coltrane on an evaluation framework for universities currently being considered by the state Higher Education Coordinating Commission, which is meeting to approve the framework Sept. 10.

The Board of Trustees will consider approval of an updated 2016 budget. Numbers are still being finalized for the resolution due to the timing of bargaining sessions scheduled just before the board’s meeting.

Also, the board will consider resolutions on board operations, consider two capital improvement agreements and hear academic presentations regarding the School of Journalism and Communication and the humanities (within the College of Arts and Sciences). 

During the finance and facilities meeting, trustees will discuss tuition; specifically, ensuring earlier student comments in the tuition-setting process and a tuition guarantee concept. The Academic and Student Affairs Committee will learn more about academic program offerings in Portland and overall academic organizational structures and management relationships. 

On Friday, the Board of Trustees will hear a presentation on sponsored research activities, including information from two high-research faculty members, and will engage in a discussion about research opportunities, national trends and related topics. 

As part of its routine business, the board committees will receive quarterly updates relating to finance, treasury and audit.
