Emergency response exercises are scheduled on the Eugene campus this month. The University of Oregon community should be aware of potential visibility and community response. These exercises align with the university’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness. These kinds of drills are a normal, important part of keeping our campus safe. That said, we know that even when you know something is a drill, seeing emergency vehicles or police activity can be unsettling. If you need support, visit the Employee Assistance Program for resources.
Schedule
Friday, April 10 — Construction site drill (around noon)
If you’re near the East 17th Avenue and Moss Street construction site around midday on April 10, you may notice emergency vehicles in the area. The construction contractor is running a medical emergency response drill, and Eugene Springfield Fire will be participating. They’ll respond without lights or sirens as part of the exercise. No action is needed from campus community members.
Thursday, April 16 — UHS lockdown drill (8:30-10:30 a.m.)
University Health Services will be fully closed for two hours on the morning of April 16 while UO police and University Health Services staff conduct a lockdown safety training exercise. Everything happens inside the building and signs will be posted at all entrances letting people know a drill is underway. You may see police vehicles and officers near the building — this is expected and part of the exercise.
