Update Jan. 16 at 4:17 p.m.
The Eugene and Portland campuses of the University of Oregon are closed Tuesday, Jan. 16 and Wednesday, Jan.17. UO Safety and Risk Services continues to monitor the weather and assess impacts. Further announcements will be made if the campuses will remain closed.
The university notified students and employees through the UO Alerts blog, texts and emails that the Eugene and Portland campuses are closed and all classes and events are canceled all day Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to weather and safety concerns.
In messages to faculty, staff and students, university leaders said the decision was based on the severity of the storm and the impact on the campus and surrounding community members.
Employees, students and visitors to campus are urged to stay informed about conditions by visiting the UO Alerts blog and to use extreme caution on or near campus. Safety and Risk Services offers tips for staying safe in severe weather (see below).
Inclement weather information for employees is available on the human resources website.
The university uses several methods to communicate closures, delays and other operational updates. The university community should assume the UO is operating on its normal schedule unless they receive an official message. The UO typically will not issue a notice saying it is operating normally.
