For almost a decade, the University of Oregon's Common Reading program has encouraged incoming students to read the same book before arriving on campus. This year, that invitation is being expanded to faculty and staff.
“The Grace of Silence,” by NPR special correspondent Michele Norris, has been selected for the reading in anticipation of Norris’ visit to campus Nov. 13.
The Center on Diversity and Community, the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Division of Student Affairs invites the UO community to join a discussion group about the book and the issues raised in it. There will be two facilitated discussions:
- Noon, Sept. 10, CoDaC office, 54 Susan Campbell Hall;
- 5:30 p.m., Sept. 12, Duck Store, upstairs in the Literary Duck, 13th and Kincaid streets.
Books are for sale at the DuckStore or online.
The Common Reading is the initial event associated with The Identity Project, a year-long collaboration between units on campus to engage the university community in an exploration on the theme of identity.
Questions can be directed to Rita Radostitz, rjr@uoregon.edu or 6-8450.
