UO hosts UK expert on child abuse prevention Nov. 1

The public is invited to hear a leader in child abuse prevention speak at the University of Oregon Nov. 1 on the implementation of evidence-based efforts across the United Kingdom.

George Hosking, founder and CEO of the UK's Wave Trust, will speak from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 230T of the HEDCO Education Building, 17th and Alder streets on campus.

Hosking is hosted by 90by30, Lane County's campus-community child abuse prevention partnership. 90by30 is an ambitious effort to reduce instances of child abuse and neglect in Lane County 90 percent by 2030. It’s a collaboration between the UO’s new Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect, CASA of Lane County and the county Health and Human Services department.

Hosking will elaborate on evidence-based child abuse prevention efforts across the United Kingdom, including a campaign called "70 by 30" and the Family-Nurse Partnership and the Roots of Empathy.

There is free, two-hour street parking on 16th and 17th avenues between Hilyard and Alder; a paid lot with a kiosk is in front of HEDCO; and there is meter parking on 18th Avenue between University and Alder. Please RSVP to Phyllis Barkhurst, director of 90by30.
