Fall Big Bands Concert featuring Todd DelGuidice, Jazz Saxophone
Beall Concert Hall, Frohnmayer Music Building $7 general admission, $5 students and seniorsJazz recording artist and UO graduate Todd DelGuidice, joins the University of Oregon big bands for an evening of music in historic Beall Concert Hall. A stellar clarinetist and jazz saxophonist, DelGuidice has performed with Ray Charles, John Fedchock, the Woody Herman Big Band, Natalie Cole, Ken Peploski, and the Maria Schneider Orchestra, among other jazz greats. Now Assistant Professor of Clarinet and Jazz Saxophone at the University of North Florida, DelGuidice completed masters degrees at both the University of Miami in jazz performance and the University of Oregon, where he studied classical clarinet under the tutelage of Dr. Wayne Bennett. During his stay in Oregon, Todd was the principal clarinetist of the Oregon Mozart Players and bass clarinetist for the Eugene Opera, and also performed with the Eugene Symphony, the American Symphonia, and the Eugene Ballet. Matthew Halls, Conductor with UO Choirs and the University Symphony Orchestra
Beall Concert Hall, Frohnmayer Music Building $10 general admission, $8 students and seniorsMatthew Halls, the Oregon Bach Festival’s new artistic director, returns for his second annual residency with the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. Halls will conduct Mozart's "Mass in C Minor" with the University Singers and the University Symphony Orchestra. He will also conduct the Chamber Choir in Benjamin Britten's "Hymn to St. Cecilia," programmed to mark the Britten centenary, and Herbert Howell's "Take Him Earth for Cherishing." The latter piece was composed in memory of John F. Kennedy, and has been selected to mark the 50th anniversary of the president's death. Born in the U.K. and Oxford-educated, Halls first came to prominence as a keyboard player and early music conductor. Still in his thirties, he has garnered acclaim for his dynamic and intelligent work with major symphony orchestras and opera companies, and for his probing and vibrant interpretations of music of all periods. In 2011 Halls made his Oregon Bach Festival debut (which included Britten’s "Hymn to St. Cecilia"). Such was the impact of his performances that he was immediately asked to succeed Helmuth Rilling as artistic director, a post he assumed in July 2013.

Based in Ashland, Oregon, Dancing People Company has gained a reputation since its 1994 inception as an innovative and cohesive modern dance company. Dancing People's five-member company has performed for appreciative audiences at numerous international festivals, including in Poland, Russia, and Japan. The company's dances ride the fine edge of post-modernism while maintaining a lyricism and humanism that audiences welcome. DPC dances are about people and their innate desire to communicate, connect, and discover a common voice. "Aspects of the Heart," a new work by artistic director Robin Stiehm, lends its name to this concert. "Aspects" was created especially for the women of the company, and embraces their philosophies about life, intimacy, and human relationships. In 2003 DPC relocated from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ashland, where they've developed a strong base of support and community involvement.

She holds a doctorate in music composition and a master’s of computer science from the University of Illinois, and taught for several years as an invited lecturer at the Centre de Crèation Musical Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) in Paris. In addition to her work in software development and music composition, she has a special interest in scientific sonification and is currently working with physicists Lily Asquith and Michael Krämer on a project to sonify data from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. After graduating from the University of Southern California he served as clarinetist with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. Santos received fellowships to the Tanglewood Music Center in the summers of 2003 and 2006, where he won the Gino B. Cioffi Memorial Prize for exceptional woodwind performance. He has also had fellowships with the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (2002) and the National Orchestral Institute in Washington D.C. (2004). In addition to his orchestral activities, he has performed chamber music throughout the United States, Europe, and China.
