The City of Roses doesn’t mess around when it comes to parades.
The Portland Rose Festival’s 2015 Grand Floral Parade wound 4.2 miles through the city on Saturday, as thousands of people lined the streets to see the century-old tradition. The parade featured 14 all-floral floats, 17 marching bands, 19 equestrian units, vintage cars, dancers and marching groups.
The University of Oregon sponsored the “We are Oregon” section, which will featured the grand marshals, Gov. Kate Brown and former Gov. Barbara Roberts. The UO’s parade presence included the Duck Truck, cheerleaders, an alumni band, UO Alumni Association Portland Chapter members and the Duck.
The Portland Rose Festival is a month-long celebration with three parades, a CityFair in Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and numerous activities, including concerts, runs and dragon boat races. This year’s theme is “Bloomin’ Good Time.”
