To make sure no one goes unnoticed for service to their country, the Veterans and Family Student Association has established this week as Women Veterans Appreciation Week.

From documentaries to panels, the veterans group has various events planned throughout the week, including a talk from Shoshana Johnson, the first African-American female prisoner of war in the United States.

From 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Gerlinger Lounge is the Female Veterans Panel. Women veterans will be discussing their experiences during and after serving in the military. Food will be provided.

To cap of the week, Johnson will speak from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Great Room in the Global Scholars Hall. Johnson was held in captivity for 22 days in Iraq in 2003, and she’ll talk about her experiences during that time as well as the empowerment of women.

Along with the Veterans and Family Student Association, the talk is sponsored by the Women’s Center, the Muslim Student Association and the Men of Strength Team.
