The UO’s statewide economic impact tallies $3.7 billion

The results are in. The University of Oregon contributes $3.7 billion to Oregon's economy, according to a new report conducted by Parker Strategy Group.

While the university is driven to deliver on its mission of teaching, discovery and service, our purpose is rooted in enhancing the social, cultural, physical and economic well-being of our students, Oregon, the nation and the world. Assessing the university’s direct and indirect contributions to the state economy demonstrates that UO’s impact reaches beyond its classrooms, research laboratories and alumni networks.

On Feb. 12 during University Day at the State Capitol, advocates from Oregon’s seven public universities gathered to lobby legislators to fund public universities and preserve need-based financial aid.

The UO delegation of employees, alumni and students showcased UO’s economic impact as return on the investment. The UO is leading for Oregon through its economic impact, and its world-class faculty and staff are fundamental to its success.

“Behind every number in this report are people,” President Karl Scholz said. “Faculty mentoring students, researchers advancing new ideas, staff creating experiences that draw visitors and partners to our campus. Together, you generate opportunity that reaches far beyond Eugene. The University of Oregon’s $3.7 billion impact reflects your daily commitment to excellence and service. I am incredibly grateful of this community and proud of the work you do to make the UO a driver of progress for Oregon.”
