University of Oregon President Michael H. Schill is back at home after being hospitalized for a serious infection that devolved from a cut on his hand. He is expected to remain out of the office for several additional days as he recovers. Schill has expressed gratitude for the well wishes he has received.
Provost Patrick Phillips will continue to serve as acting president of the university while the president focuses on his recovery. The UO Board of Trustees had previously been notified. No other operational impact is expected due to the absence.
“I know that the university community joins me in wishing President Schill a swift recovery. Thank you for respecting his request for privacy,” Phillips said.
