Saunders co-founded the UO's undergraduate minor in comics and cartoon studies, the first of its kind in the nation.

Ellen Herman had a busy day when the Supreme Court ruled about marriage equality because she and colleagues had a hand to play in it.As she explained to The Oregonian in a story following the landmark decision, Herman and 19 fellow historians filed a brief that was cited in the ruling that same-sex couples have the right to marry. The historians have also filed briefs in other cases on the topic of historical evolution of marriage and gender roles.

Sociology professor Ryan Light and a colleague in Denver reviewed 19,000 previous studies as part of their research.

UO graduate Liz Zarro went from dancing to design at the UO, and now hopes to use what she’s learned to make people’s lives better.Zarro and the products she designed as a student are the subject of a story in The Oregonian newspaper, part of a series on the state’s graduates. Zarro, a Clark Honors College student, told the paper she wants to design things that “are more than just products.”
