It’s Monday morning, but Ellie Auvinen leads 45 teenagers through their vocal warm-ups with fearless enthusiasm. “I’m seeing slumping,” she calls out cheerfully. “No slumping in this choir room! Reach up. Long arms.” The University of Oregon senior might be under the supervision of Sheldon High School choir teacher Megan Purdue, but for now this is clearly Auvinen’s classroom. In unison, the students lean forward and back, left and right, take deep breaths in and out.
