The University of Oregon's Office of Sustainability and Department of Human Resources will host a pair of informational sessions on Wednesday, Oct. 16, about usage-based car insurance – in which insurance bills are based on mileage driven rather than perceived risk.

The Usage Based Car Insurance Vendor Resource Fair will feature two 50-minute meetings – at noon and 1 p.m. – that are open to all members of the campus community. Representatives from at least five insurance companies will be present at the two sessions, which will be held in the EMU Walnut Room.

Registration is now open for the 2013 Run with the Duck 5k, which will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 9, beginning at Hayward Field. The fourth-annual event is intended to promote healthy lifestyles for members of the University of Oregon community.

All UO faculty, staff and students are invited to run for free in the event, which is sponsored by the UO’s Healthy Campus Initiative. Others, including family members of UO employees or students, are asked to bring $15 each to the race. All participants will receive long-sleeve T-shirts.

Mark Yuran started Oct. 14 as chief human resources officer for the University of Oregon, bringing a progressive approach honed over 20 years within higher education and corporate systems.

Yuran, formerly in the same position at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, is a versatile and effective leader with a deep understanding of organizations and operations, said Jamie Moffitt, UO chief financial officer.

More than 500 middle and high school journalists across Oregon have an opportunity to improve their craft during Fall Press Day at the University of Oregon. 

The Northwest Scholastic Press Association and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication invite young journalists to the daylong event, which will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Erb Memorial Union.

The University of Oregon Health Center is launching a smartphone app titled SexPositive. It is already available for the iPhone and will be coming to Android phones soon.

An interactive, traveling exhibit designed to raise awareness and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities is being brought to the University of Oregon by the Division of Student Affairs.

"Allies for Inclusion: Ability Exhibit" was created at St. Louis University. Those who explore the exhibit will learn about the disability movement, universal design, silent or hidden disabilities and more.

The University of Oregon’s Department of Human Physiology will host a seminar on this Friday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. featuring Eric Stice of the Oregon Research Institute.

The lecture, “Reward region responsivity and reward learning propensity increase risk for future weight gain,” is part of the department’s ongoing lecture series. It will be held in room 132 of Lillis Business Complex, and is free and open to the public.
