The University of Oregon will host a Disability Studies forum and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Knight Library browsing room.
The event will feature prominent guest scholars in disability studies and presentations by faculty and graduate students from the UO. Space is limited; please RSVP and send disability accommodation requests to Elizabeth Magee.
An Oct. 17 gathering celebrated the 239 recipients of the UO's Solari Scholarship and honored alumna Mary Corrigan Solari, '46, whose $5 million gift established the scholarship. Vice President for Enrollment Management Roger Thompson served as emcee and recognized the academic achievements of the high-performing Solari scholars.

The University of Oregon Department of Human Physiology will host a talk on Oct. 25 titled “Complement Activation in Severe Preeclampsia” as part of the department’s ongoing lecture series.
Richard Burwick, an assistant professor in maternal fetal medicine at Oregon Health and Science University, will give the lecture on campus in Room 132 of the Lillis Business Complex from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

Julianne Newton has been appointed interim dean of the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, Interim Senior Vice President and Provost Scott Coltrane announced recently.
Newton has been a professor of visual communication in the journalism school since fall 2000, and has served as the associate dean for Undergraduate Affairs since 2008. She begins her new duties Nov. 1.
World-renowned sitar virtuoso Kartik Seshadri will meet with students and perform for the public Oct. 18.
Seshadri heads one of the largest programs of Indian classical music at the University of California, San Diego. On Oct. 18, he will demonstrate his instrument and playing style to students and members of the public at 2 p.m. in the Pape Reception Hall of the University of Oregon Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
Dave Frohnmayer, University of Oregon president emeritus and law professor, has been named to the board of directors for the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
Frohnmayer joins one of the nation's oldest learned societies and independent policy research centers, focused on contributing to academy publications and studies of science and technology policy, education, energy and global security, social policy and American institutions and the humanities.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Ave Maria: Marian Devotional Works from Eastern and Western Christendom” in the McKenzie Gallery.
This exhibition, on view through July 20, 2014, explores a variety of representations of Mary and iconic scenes from her life through narrative and symbolic works in the JSMA’s collection.
