Employees wanting to zip across the Eugene campus on an electric scooter will need to find other options since the pilot program ended early after the company Superpedestrian shut down.
The bright yellow scooters arrived on campus almost a year ago as part of a one-year pilot program launched by the city of Eugene in partnership with the University of Oregon and Cascadia Mobility. Cascadia Mobility tracked and distributed the scooters, which were provided by Superpedestrian, but the e-scooter company has closed for financial reasons.
Other services remain to help take up the slack. The PeaceHealth Rides bike share program, commonly known as the blue bikes, is offering discounted rates for University of Oregon employees and students. Cascadia Mobility, which administers the program, is working to expand its service area to cover some of the previous e-scooter locations and will add more bicycles.
People are reminded to follow university policy regarding personal transportation devices such as e-scooters and skateboards. They cannot be stored or charged indoors and are prohibited on sidewalks and paths not designated as bicycle routes. Transportation Services is working on designating outdoor storage and charging areas.
Additional updates will be posted on the Transportation Services website and employees are welcome to reach out to Josh Kashinsky, transportation planner, at jkash@uoregon.edu with any feedback on the pilot or the future of personal mobility on campus.
