Diversity reigns in all its colorful forms in June during Pride Month. Eugene celebrates Juneteenth at two events June 19, Downtown Riverfront Park and Farmers Market Pavilion and Plaza. The Juneteenth 54th Annual Festival and Parade takes place in Portland. And the event that brings together everything we do all year, commencement, is June 15.
Cinema
The Filmlandia Screening Series presents Ed’s Coed. UO students produced this silent film on the UO campus in 1929. It will be shown June 3 with live musical accompaniment from Orchestra Next with a new score from Professor of Music Brian McWhorter.
Celebrations
Meet the artists at the opening reception June 24 for the Asian Celebration Art Exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The exhibit is on view through July 12.
Dance
High-energy hip hop dancers bring the funk and crunk June 4 at the free Duck Jam.
The Dema African Dance Ensemble is a dynamic celebration of African culture, particularly from the region of Ghana. It takes the floor June 5-6 in the Dougherty Dance Theatre.
Entertainment
Take a break from work and join the biweekly game night in the Allan Price Science Commons and Research Library. Last one of the term is June 2.
Also sunsetting for the season is Stargazer, an immersive relaxation visualization, in the science library June 3.
Exhibitions
There are just a few weeks left to view ReEnvisioned: Contemporary Portraits of Our Black Ancestors by Jeremy Okai Davis at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History before the exhibition closes June 21.
Spring Storm is the School of Art + Design’s annual end-of-year exhibition and celebration of seniors completing degrees in art, art and technology, and product design. Drop by Lawrence Hall June 5.
Get ready for the semiquincentennial at America at 250—Before, Between, Beyond with rarely seen items on display at the the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. UO employees can visit for free.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is also free for employees but will be open special hours and free for all during the day of commencement, June 15. Catch two exhibits before they leave July 5: Gateway to Himalayan Art and Looking Back: Diane Arbus, 1956-1970. Opening June 13 is Collecting America: Recent Acquisitions presentsing selection of artworks from the museum’s permanent collection that demonstrate its commitment to understandings of American art.
June is your last chance to view Evolution of a Moment: The Photographs of Brian Lanker in the Knight Library. The Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer made iconic images of UO Athletics in the 1970s-80s.
Music
Graduating music students will share their talents in a series of recitals, and the performance groups will play their final concerts of the academic year. Catch the electrifying Oregon Wind Symphony with Trombone Choir “Crowds, Ceremonies and Celebrations” June 4 in Beall Concert Hall.
The UO Garter Bands End of Year Blowout takes over the Wildish Theater in downtown Springfield, June 5. Also off campus is the End of Year Jazz Blowout at The Jazz Station in Eugene, June 6.
