More than 3,000 students from across the globe will arrive at the University of Oregon on Thursday, Sept. 26, to begin the college experience.
Here’s a great way to welcome them: Leave your car at home.
Move-in Day is expected to increase traffic congestion around the university and place a premium on parking spots, particularly in campus areas east of University Street. The university community is encouraged to carpool or use alternative transportation, said Gwendolyn Bolden, director of parking and transportation.
“We hope that you will help us welcome our new and returning students and their families who will be checking in this day,” she said.
The university will not provide shuttle parking at Autzen stadium this year, but the Eugene-Springfield community provides a number of alternative transportation options.
For information on unloading, construction and parking zones, traffic routes and free parking on Sept. 26, consult the University Housing Move-in Day map or download the University of Oregon app and select the new welcome section.
In conjunction with Move-in Day, more than 300 volunteers will help new Ducks move their belongings into residence halls under the third annual Unpack the Quack. The volunteers keep traffic moving by meeting students at unloading zones and getting items up into the residence hall rooms, clearing parking spaces for the next arriving families.
To reduce traffic congestion, students are encouraged to check in during their two-hour assigned time. Dining venues will be open for lunch.
