The University of Oregon invites faculty, staff and students to participate in the annual Night Safety Walk on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Cedar and Spruce rooms at the Erb Memorial Union.
The event will begin with an overview of previous night safety projects, a discussion of walking routes and instructions for the evening's activities. To kick off the event, pizza will be provided.
From the EMU, teams will spread out across the campus using their mobile devices to interact with the Safety at Night map. Participants will drop pins on the map to indicate areas where improvements in lighting, hardscaping and landscaping are needed for nighttime safety.
After completing the walk, participants will return to the EMU for a short debrief session, followed by dessert.
The Night Safety Walk is a collaborative effort that allows the UO community to provide valuable feedback on areas that require enhancements for nighttime safety. Beyond this annual event, the Safety at Night map application is available year-round, enabling users to report safety issues and view lit safety corridors and emergency call box locations throughout the Eugene campus.
This initiative is hosted by the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, Campus Planning and Facilities Management, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration, Safety and Risk Services, and the UO Police Department.
To assist with event planning, participants are encouraged to RSVP by Nov. 12. Everyone's participation and feedback are crucial in making the UO a safer place for everyone.
