As activity slows down on campus during summer term, expect to see reduced hours for many buildings and services during the coming months.
Most locations and services will be closed for Juneteenth on June 19 and Labor Day on Sept. 1. The Independence Day holiday will be observed July 3 with America’s 250th being July 4. Summer classes begin June 22 with the 12-week session ending Sept. 11.
Campus Planning and Facilities Management has real-time information on closures and major projects on the department’s Construction Impacts map. The campuswide door lock procedure begins June 19. Annual Electrical Testing Day is Aug. 12.
Parking spaces may be easier to find, but all campus lots will be patrolled by Transportation Services as usual. Summer term parking permits are on sale now, becoming active June 22. Over the summer, Transportation Services will be performing lot repaving, painting and general maintenance across campus. Related impacts will be posted on the Transportation Services website. Ride-hailing services will operate as usual while some LTD buses serving campus may have limited schedules. Duck Rides is closed for the summer. The motor pool will remain open and available for both daily and monthly vehicle rentals throughout the summer.
The Erb Memorial Union begins summer hours June 22. The building will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of second summer session, Aug. 14. Starting Aug. 15, it will be open 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends through mid-September. It will be closed July 3 and 4. Most, but not all, EMU food vendors will be open throughout the summer.
Searching for a cool summer beverage? The Riverfront Bistro at the Knight Campus will be open all summer serving coffee, espresso, and sandwiches and salads — now with outdoor seating available — Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starbucks in the EMU will also be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The campus cafés will be closed this summer. The dining areas at the Unthank and Carson residence halls will be open to the community with a variety of daily buffet entrées and other options such as salad bar, sandwiches, coffee and desserts. Unthank is open June 20-July 31 and Aug. 11-20 and Carson Dining is open June 13-July 13 and Aug. 21 into fall term. Both will be closed to employees Aug. 1-10 for the World Athletics U20 Championships. The UO Campus Map has a food app layer and has a feature to drop a pin in a location and to get a unique URL to send to a coworker to meet for coffee.
Campus Mail Services is open with limited route services to accommodate department closures. For those working on publication jobs over the summer break, Print Services at the Baker Center will be open regular hours, except for an early closure at noon, June 18, for an all-staff retreat.
University Health Services, including Counseling Services, is open for patient care June 15-19, 9 a.m. to noon. Starting June 22 through Sept. 11, Health Services will be open regular hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for Dental Services, which opens at 8 a.m., and Pharmacy, which opens at 10 a.m. Health Services will be closed to patient care June 19, July 3, Aug. 12-13, and Sept. 7. University Counseling Services after-hours support and crisis line is available at 541-346-3227.
Knight Library will be open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on weekends. The Knight Law Center will be open for UO ID card holders but closed to the public from June 15 to Aug. 9; public patrons can contact the Law Library to schedule time to visit. Knight Library will be closed July 9 for an all-personnel retreat. Visit the UO Libraries website for specific library location hours.
Plan workouts around the Student Recreation Center modified hours. Memberships can be purchased for the term. The facility will be closed for annual maintenance in late summer. Tennis courts, outdoor fields and track will be unavailable for most of the summer due to track and field events. There are family hours for open recreation Monday through Saturday, and for aquatics Monday through Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m.
The Museum of Natural and Cultural History is open regular hours. Special events will take place throughout the summer: Family Fun in the Sun on Fridays and Saturdays in July and August and Crafts in the Courtyard on Thursday evenings in July. The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will operate on regular hours throughout the summer with a short closure Aug. 12-13 for campus electrical testing and a maintenance closure from Aug. 31-Sept. 8.
Approximately 10,000 students and family members will come to the Eugene campus for IntroDUCKtion across 15 sessions running from late June through September. During these days, many campus spaces such as conference rooms, EMU dining venues and east campus parking lots will be actively in use to support orientation programming, advising and family engagement.
On the UO Portland campus, the Library and Learning Center will be open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the library opening one hour later. The Campus Center will be open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Innovation Hall will be open Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oregon House and Highland Hall will have card access only.
The Duck Store’s Flagship Campus and EMU locations will be open regular summer hours. Please visit UODuckStore.com/stores for specific day and location information as open hours are subject to change.
Summer hours will vary for technical support from the User Support Services service desks, part of Information Services. Details will be posted in the UO Service Portal for HEDCO Learning Commons, Knight Library, Lawrence Hall, Lillis Business Complex, Knight School of Law, UO Portland and the Technology Service Desk, as well as the EMU computer lab. Tech support tickets can be submitted through the UO Service Portal 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year. UO IT staff will respond to tickets when available.
Fall term starts Sept. 28, while the School of Law resumes classes Aug. 24.
