Molecular geneticist to deliver IMB Streisinger lecture

Janet Rossant, an expert in molecular genetics, will deliver the 28th Annual Institute of Molecular Biology’s Streisinger Lecture at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, in 100 Willamette Hall. Her talk will explore “Single Cell Analysis in Early Mammalian Development.”

Rossant is a senior scientist in the developmental and stem cell biology program and chief of research at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. She is also a professor in the departments of molecular genetics, obstetrics/gynaecology and pediatrics at the University of Toronto.

President Gottfredson, Lane partners target success for high school graduates

University of Oregon President Michael Gottfredson and local education partners discussed continuing success for high school graduates last week at a meeting of the state’s education investment board.

Speaking at the invitation of Oregon Chief Education Officer Rudy Crew, Gottfredson and Connected Lane County, a coalition of education leaders, made a proposal for a regional achievement compact during a meeting of the Oregon Education Investment Board.

SOJC’s Sung Park Awarded Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant

School of Journalism and Communication Instructor Sung Park has been selected for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.

Park, one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who received the award, will spend the 2013-2014 academic year at the University of Ghana. Park will teach multimedia journalism to graduate students for the university’s journalism program.

Bean: Marcus appointed acting dean of College of Arts and Sciences

W. Andrew Marcus, associate dean of social sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, has been appointed acting dean of the college while Scott Coltrane serves as interim provost, Provost James Bean said recently, in a message to the university community.

“Andrew begins July 1 and will serve as long as needed,” Bean said. “I am confident that he will do a great job."

Two UO students are finalists in “green” architecture contest

Two University of Oregon students are among four finalists in an architecture contest that prizes original, non-toxic and ecologicaly sound building products.

Zander Eckblad, an undergraduate in the UO's Product Design Program, and Yin Yu, a graduate student in the Interior Architecture Program, both in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, have advanced in the Oregon BEST Red List Design Challenge. Finalists were announced recently at the International Living Future Institute’s annual unConference in Seattle.
