Haugland honored for distinguished service
Born in Italy, the fifth of six children, a young Rosaria Haugland developed a love for Latin, literature and the opera that put her on the path of lifelong learning.
She was the first in her family to get a college degree, following it with doctorates in biology and biochemistry. She helped start a successful Eugene biotechnology company and then moved into philanthropy and community service.
“Takin' it to the Streets” focuses on neighborhoods April 13
“Takin’ it to the Streets” – it’s not just a Doobie Brothers classic.
It’s also the name of an annual service project by more than 60 UO students and partners to give back to the communities in which they live by participating in a day of service.
“Takin’ it to the Streets” is an annual service project aimed to improve near-campus area neighborhoods and bring neighbors together with a shared activity.
Olympic Track and Field Trials to return to Hayward Field in 2016
Max Siegel, the CEO of USA Track and Field, picked UO Day at the Capitol as the venue to announce that the Olympic Track and Field Trials will be held at historic Hayward Field in 2016 – the third straight trials to be held in TrackTown USA.
President Gottfredson addresses governance during UO Day at the Capitol
University of Oregon President Michael Gottfredson testified before a legislative committee today (April 11) that an institutional governing board will help the UO keep top students in Oregon, retain valued faculty and appeal more effectively to donors.
UO Alert! system to conduct April 16 test
A test of the UO Alert! Emergency Notification System will be conducted on Tuesday, April 16 by the UO Emergency Management and Continuity (UOEMC) program.
The following test message will be sent via e-mail and text message to registered cell phone numbers, and through the Smart Classroom system in certain classrooms on campus:

University of Oregon's Jessica Green is named Guggenheim Fellow
University of Oregon biologist Jessica Green has become the UO's 61st Guggenheim Fellow. She was one of 175 U.S. and Canadian scholars, artists and scientists named today (April 11) as 2013 Guggenheim Fellows.
Recipients were chosen because of their prior achievement and exceptional promise.
UO advocates head to Salem for Day at the Capitol
Advocates for the University of Oregon – students, alumni, faculty, staff and others – were set to converge on Salem today (April 11) for the UO's once-every-two-years Day at the Capitol.
The object of the event is to inform lawmakers and others about the university's accomplishments and reach. UO programs and the university’s service to the state are highlighted through displays in the Capitol Galleria, student performances in the House and Senate, and visits with legislators.
Preservation field school to take place at Whidbey Island
The Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School will return to Puget Sound and Whidbey Island this year, where five sessions will take place during August and September.
Topics include cultural landscapes, cultural resources management, advanced preservation technology and vernacular farmstead preservation. The hands-on work this year will include window rehabilitation, roofing replacement, barn door rehabilitation and siding repair.
Artist Talk and Schnitzer Cinema: Ant Farm and Chip Lord's video art
Chip Lord, founder of the architecture and media collaborative Ant Farm, is in Eugene for events in conjunction with the exhibition “West of Center: Art and the Counterculture Experiment in America, 1965-1977.”
Lord will showcase his video art as part of Schnitzer Cinema and present an artist talk on the history of Ant Farm.
